Marlow, That comment is the best thing I have read all week. Thank you for a refreshing, on-target perspective check.

If I had been spending a couple of thousand bucks on Realtor.com I might think about re-allocating that dough in another way, for the future. If unable to do so myself, I might hire a writer to add interesting and compelling content to my own website. Once I had that done, I might consider learning how to optimize my website for search engines or hire a good SEO expert. In tandem with that, I might do a PPC campaign and keep records on how that was doing, so I could make intelligent choices involving which keywords I chose to purchase.

Or I might take the entire amount and donate that to my favorite charity. I might spend the hours that I used to spend working on my website and instead volunteer for that same charity. I might decide to work my way onto the Board of Directors and make lots of interesting new friends. And perhaps this new sphere of friends and acquaintances would do way more for me than any cool website or PPC campaign ever could.

But one thing is for sure. I, like you, would start making some more informed decisions about the allocation of my marketing dollars :)

Oh joy...

Yet another interloper playing REALTOR.com...sad part is that there are only so many marketing checks one can write...

Great post...

The best defense against further bottage is good offense individually and collectively.

Best;
