Kris,
Here is the rub for me. I provide full service real estate services for the investor. And I feel, at times, that I'm already a not-for-profit business. So slashing fees doesn't seem like a good idea to me. Now, if I didn't make my clients so much money and spend so much time on research, profitability studies and rental capacity evaluations I might be able to slash my fees. But if you want my knowledge, my expertise and my counsel I'm gonna charge you for it!

Realtors give back fees at closing "out of the kindness of their heart." I did not know that, on my next transaction I will be sure to ask about the kindness fee rebate. Man, some of you guys are out there. The real estate transaction food chain is not going anywhere soon, dont worry guys you will get paid. Especailly if you can help sell houses in this market (if the discount brokers or so bad why bash them, most consumers think they are here to stay as competition is good, but who wouldnt pay a fee to sell or buy when a agent can get the price down, if your good then customers will use an agents services). Just figure out how to help those sellers lower their prices or even the best realtors will have 365 days on market.........

BTW, how about a post on current finance options and how this may impact the local SD market? I would like to know your opinion on the impact of the drying up of the entry SFH market. thanks

HAHAHA I dub this the "best blog of the week!" Seriously, this is perfect! Kris, you know what is so frustrating about the whole thing? Often, Realtors (like my husband) rebate at closing without telling the buyers/sellers simply out of kindness because they need it. When everyone GIVES fees away, it becomes expected. It's like EXPECTING santa to bring you a bike- you wanted it right, so it will certainly appear despite how bad you were this year!

I think you have a winning idea here and I HOPE the people who are questioning fee validity read your blog (I mean what DO Realtors do other than specialize in specific markets with years of experience, produce marketing packages, cultivate personal relationships with everyone from superintendents of new subdivisions, bankers, mortgage brokers, hoa reps, closing coordinators, spend endless hours on the phone counseling buyers and sellers giving much needed therapy, staging consultations, sometimes actual labor in a house to get things done on time, etc.... I could go on for pages, but I think this gets it across). Thanks for the concept- you rock!

I LOVE the busineess model... very web2.0. It reminds me of the good 'ol days on the internet.

On another note, I think this is my favorite day of the year on the RE.net. We should do April 1st at least once a month!

:) I think this thing could really take off. My daughters are in club sports - "pay to play". This is just a variation on the same theme - "pay to work". Name your price. I am a real estate agent; therefore, you know I am loaded with cash.
