I pulled it because I've been trying -- quite unsuccessfully -- to resist the temptation to dilute a perfectly serviceable little Sacramento real estate blog with a series of dyspeptic complaints. In addition, after Dustin stopped by to call me a jerk and Greg threw me out, I thought I'd had enough fun ejoying the social amenities of the blogosphere for one week and it was time to get back to basics, so I cleaned up a bunch of meta-level commentary. Probably I'm due for another round of that.

The good news is I've learned how to contain it somewhat better, and with my un-following that's really easy with just two or three technical tweaks that turn Wordpress into a perfectly serviceable Web 1.0 content management system.

Kris,

Thanks for listing me in the 'Peter' category. While I enjoy reading the industry's big thinkers and great writers I do try to keep the focus local. As much as I love my RE blogger friends and I appreciate how they expand my mind, I've long been blogging for 'real people'. The niche is WIDE open and its certainly going to see a big influx of newbies this year.

Sorry about the hanging Chad. I've turned off trackbacks so I shouldn't be doing that again.

[...] But soft, my imaginary friend Kris, who didn’t stop in for her mineral water, is on the verge of catching on, if no one finds her hanging with me, which should be unproblematic. In my innocence of youth and in my blogging infancy, I envisioned droves of consumers hungry for real estate information participating in a question and answer and opinion sharing free-for-all. Now, these many months later, we have a healthy audience of consumers; this much I know from the emails I get from past clients, the feedback I get at appointments and the statistics on my hit counter. Unfortunately, getting this readership contingent to move from outsider-looking-in to active participant has been more difficult than I imagined. We have an even healthier industry readership, and we of course have our “trolls”, or rabble rousers, all of whom add value to our site. [...]

Precisely.

The emporer has no clothes.

Or more precisely, they're not the same clothes his minister of information thinks they are.

You definitely get it Kris. Too much of one thing, no matter how good, can cause people to tire of you. Hey, I LOVE vanilla ice cream with chocolate sprinkles but I couldn't stomach it every day. Variety is the spice of life in the blogos.

It is amazing that you can spread your varied talents across so many blogs. Your river runs deep. I love your sense of humor. You're a natural and will surely rise to the top of this food chain. BHB will have to give you a piece of the action, I mean ramen, for raising the pedigree :)

I agree with you, Steve, that mostly industry/bloggers participate but consumers will one day be more engaged, once someone figures out how to do it really well.
My House Key is an experiment in that direction. We have a great steering committee so you never know .

Continued success with SDHB and whatever blogs are fortunate enough to have access to your expertise and writing skills.

Phil - I couldn't agree with you more. I believe a fair number of "civilians" are lurking, but the participation seems to be largely the industry guys.
