Really... Champaigne, what a amateur. Everyone knows that us realtor vampires drink merlot so as to provide a cover for when we actually get to feast on "the good stuff" at closings. :-P

I toyed with the idea of suggesting responding with nasty letter to the editor, muck raking searches on his previous home sales, suggestting to his advertising department that "with the downturn in the housing market our budget is limited and we're having to make hard choices between buying champaigne and the newspaper advertising budget".

But seriously now :-) Possibly a way to combat this sort of thing, is not to fight him, but help him write a better story for next time.

Invite him over for a day and have him follow you about. (Run him ragged.) Give him your data and take on the market. Show him that the fabled wine cellar is in fact a storage room for open house signs. Let him know about the blog. Take the MLS out for a joyride. Ask him about writing. Win him over. What a wonderful oppotunity to make a mutually beneficial contact.

You never know, maybe he'll discover he likes green eggs and ham. ;-)

Kris & Steve - Roger Showley is a hack paid to help sell newspapers. Nothing more and nothing less. For the most part, those who can, do, and those who can't.........write for newspapers. (Of course with the exception of Greg Swann) :-)

A simple look at the year over year numbers, as you so deftly pointed out, will show what is really happening. You nailed it.

Showley isn't worth your time. Never has been.

I love to be right! :-) But you're right about Showley. What in the hell was that out of context reference about agents (not popping champaigne bottles) doing in this article. It really had nothing to do with it the rest of the article. As a writer for a major city newspaper, he is supposed to be objective. But he has forever slammed agent comissions as some "gift from god" that we somehow don't deserve for doing what people hire us and rely upon us for - help in buying or selling. He must have had a really shi*ty experience when he bought his last home. His anti-agent bias is really starting to get old and I'm feeling a RANT coming on! Uh! Oh!
